The short answer
Put the new box next to the old one, fill it with the litter your cat already uses (if the box accepts it), and keep automatic cleaning off for the first days. Turn cycling on once your cat uses it reliably, then remove the old box.
Before you start
- Check your cat meets the box's minimum weight.
- Place it on a hard, level floor near an outlet.
- Use the same litter, or mix in the new one over a week.
The first week
- Leave cycling off or on a long delay.
- Scoop the old box less often so the new one looks cleaner.
- Reward your cat for using it.
Turning on automatic cleaning
Start with the longest delay so the cycle runs well after your cat leaves. Most boxes, including the Litter-Robot 4 and PETKIT PuraMax 2, pause if a cat approaches.
SafetyIf your cat stops using any box suddenly, see your vet; avoidance can signal a health problem.
