Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes

A self-cleaning box separates waste from clean litter after each visit and drops it into a sealed drawer or tray. The two numbers that decide fit are the maker's cat count and cat weight range: below the minimum weight, most boxes won't cycle automatically, which matters for kittens.

Litter type is the next filter. Most globe and open-top boxes need clumping litter, crystal-tray boxes need crystals, and a few take both. Running costs come from bags, filters and trays, so check what each model uses before you buy.
