Why it matters
Simply Unscented uses clay, carbon and minerals with Ammonia Block Technology to stop urine odor on contact, with no added dyes or fragrances. Fresh Step puts odor control at 15 days.
It forms tight clumps that leave fewer crumbs behind. The listing is two 18.5 lb boxes.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Good fit if
- Scent-sensitive cats
- Multi-cat homes
- Self-cleaning boxes that take clumping litter
Look elsewhere if
- Owners who want a light bag
- Flushing (clay isn't flushable)
- Crystal-tray boxes
Pros and cons
Pros
- Unscented
- Charcoal
- Tight clumps
Cons
- Heavy
- Not flushable
- Clay dust when poured
Limitations to weigh
- In a self-cleaning box, use it only where the box's maker accepts clumping litter; most globe and open-top boxes do, crystal-tray boxes don't.
- Switch litters gradually by mixing in the new one over about a week; abrupt changes can put cats off the box.
- The bag weight is what you carry, not how long it lasts; lighter formulas cover the same use with less weight.
