Why it matters
FUKUMARU's Retro post uses undyed natural sisal, which the maker says mimics tree bark, on a solid-wood base with a small perch. The retro styling suits mid-century rooms.
It's about 28.7 in tall.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Good fit if
- Design-minded homes
- Average cats
- Natural materials
Look elsewhere if
- Cats that only scratch carpet (try a flat mat)
- Very large cats on small posts
- Owners expecting a scratcher to last forever
Pros and cons
Pros
- Undyed sisal
- Solid wood
- Perch
Cons
- Under 30 in
- Pricier
- Small perch
Limitations to weigh
- Put scratchers where your cat already scratches: by doors, beds and the arm of the sofa.
- A post should let your cat stretch fully upright; most adults need 30 in or more.
- A pinch of catnip or a wand toy dragged across the surface helps a cat find it.
